Teenage depression should be taken seriously.Your children start withdrawing from you and other people, look sad, or irritated? We discuss here about some signs and symptoms and the tips.
Today, children are living in a demanding and stressful world. School life, family relationships, and the feeling of just not fitting in all lead to a stressful life. Children are not equipped with a full set of skills to deal with all kinds of stress and may be experiencing teenage depression.
Children sometimes do not have languages to eloquently express their feelings and opinions, so that the depressive moods may be manifested by their behaviors.
Is your child starting to show the following signs?
1. Looking sad or irritated
2. Falling grades
3. Withdrawing from parents and other people
4. Decreased appetite
5. Cannot sleep well
6. Cannot focus on tasks
7. No interests in social activities or just-for-fun activities
Some children display irritability and aggression instead of showing sadness and depression. Many adults think that these children are trouble makers and miss the signs of depression.
As a parent, one of the first things you can do is listen to what your child is really saying. Many children who display problematic aggressive behaviors do not have opportunities to be heard because of their aggressive behaviors and they then display more negative behaviors.
Irritable or depressive moods are merely symptoms of what they are going through. You may not be able to change your child's negative behaviors and depressive moods today, but you can change how you currently communicate with your child. That is a start for your child to change and have a healthier life.
One of the most effective and research based treatment for depression is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) . Our agency provides research based TEAM-CBT to help children quickly recover from depression.
