Intercultural Marriage Issues: Distance
Right now, I am challenged by distance. I cannot say that he is.
I am in America and I just came back from Ghana, where I met half of my fiance's family. I'm to meet the rest when we get married in Nigeria in January of 2011.
The hardest part for me is his emotional reserve. I am open and communicate well, he is, and does when he feels like it. Not when I desire it. Which I am trying to respect (but I have no choice because I am on the other side of the world right now).
So his distance that he is determined to keep is a problem for me. He says after we live together that the communication will change. I suspect that it will, because it was different before my journey to Ghana.
I expected our communication to get stronger, but it did not, it took a loop, because he is a tad bit different around his family, then when we have our private time.
So now I have to learn how to respect the difference in the expressing of our different styles of communication.
Other than that, he is perfect, everything God created a man to be, at least to me.
