People who suffer with these types of anxiety disorders are often consumed with obsessive worry which controls their day. They find it difficult to deal with daily activities and they cannot function right in normal settings.

  • Learn about flight or fight reactions

Whenever we feel unknown and uncontrollable sensations, our normal reactions are either flee from or fight against them. They are not logical reactions, but almost automatic reactions to protect us from unknown fear. This is a very important survival skill but it often creates more problems when we experience anxiety.

People with anxiety disorder tend to avoid all kind of triggers to avoid feeling of anxiety. I know people who decide to stay in their room all day long because of fear of germ, or who decide to not eat sausages when they are alone at home because of fear of choking.


Avoidance appears to be a good solution since that may eliminate their anxiety. It however is the worst solution that they can chose because it will increase their anxiety. This is the tricky part of anxiety. The more you avoid it, the more anxiety you will experience next time when they face the similar situations.


  • Going through anxiety

So, the solution for anxiety is to go against your instinct. instead of avoiding anxiety, you need to go through anxiety. You need to feel overwhelming anxiety. The more you are exposed to anxiety, the less you feel anxious.

One of the main things a person feels when the panic or anxiety attack comes on is out of control. They feel as if they are going to die and they can't gain control over their body. You will learn that anxiety will not kill you after all. You will learn that things you are afraid of so much are actually not big deals. You start controlling your anxiety not the other way around.


  • Coping skills and techniques

You will also learn coping skills and techniques so that you can use them when you are going through overwhelming anxiety. These techniques will help you keep you from going back to old behavior which is avoidance. As you remember, anxiety is very sneaky. It will continue to tell you to run away from the uncomfortable feelings. The coping skills will help you stay strong and go through the uncomfortable feelings to overcome.
